Village Church is a contemporary, multi-cultural and multi-generational community of people who follow Jesus meeting in Annandale in Sydney's inner west.

We’re looking for an evangelical complementarian man with at least three years theological training, able to be licensed by the Archbishop of Sydney, to join our friendly and creative ministry team as an
assistant minster overseeing maturity.

You would need to be able to wholeheartedly get behind our Village Church
vision to ‘Glorify God by seeing Annandale and surrounds growing as disciples of Jesus’ and values.

The key aspect of your role would be to lead us in becoming more mature in Christ as together we go deeper in the word and prayer.

As maturity pastor we would like to see you (with Fiona Taylor):

  • Oversee Village’s mid week community group ministry/maturity work by developing and implementing plans to see our membership grow deeper in the word and prayer, with a flow-on into our lives so that we might live for Jesus. We want to see people grow as disciples, value and attend our Sunday gatherings and midweek meetings, seek to see others saved, including our children.

  • Develop a leadership pipeline so that we are raising up, training and commissioning new leaders for community groups and other ministries.

  • Develop a clear pipeline to see both those who have recently come to Christ (through our mission department) and those who have transferred to Village from other churches (and been cared for in our membership teams), now settle and grow in our community groups and contribute to the Village vision.

  • Develop and implement initiatives to see more members individually value personal time in God’s Word so that more members and their families are engaged in personal and prayerful bible reading.

  • Oversee our Annual Refresh weekend away in late February.

This role would involve:

  • Contributing to vision/strategic planning/goal setting discussions for Village as a whole and your department.

  • Having strong leadership skills (able to lead leaders of leaders) and strong organisational skills.

  • Teaching the bible at our Sunday meetings as requested by the senior pastor.

  • Engaging in a ministry of personal hospitality.

  • Serving in marriage preparation and enrichment as required.

  • Working within a specialist (not generalist) framework.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has high personal warmth, humility, a self-effacing nature.

  • Is able to relate well with the diversity of Village Church members.

  • Is able to serve in a ‘second chair’ role to our senior pastor Dominic and ‘team play’ with the rest of our staff team.

  • Is able to equip, inspire and support lay leaders to serve the Lord in our church and surrounds.

  • Is positive, teachable, a team player who will fit our staff team and puts a high value on team loyalty.

  • Is prepared to work from our church offices.

  • Might engage as a parent in the local Public School communities.

  • An eye for detail, willingness to take ownership of day to day operations and desire to learn & be taught.

Training and Development:

  • We would envisage that you would engage in training and development (This may include a variety of sources, e.g. the Sydney Anglican MT&D program, Reach Australia, Nexus, CMS Summer School).

Remuneration in line with Sydney Anglican Diocese Guidelines.
