What to expect
“I’ve never been to a support group like this before… I don’t know what to expect.”
It’s not uncommon to feel isolated when going through a separation. But here, you’ll find that you’re not alone, and that there are others who understand what you’re going through.
You’ll probably feel a little nervous about going to Divorce Care for the first time. Those feelings go away quickly for most people during their first session, as they meet people who understand and can empathise with similar hurts, emotions, and painful experiences. Because of that, most people quickly feel comfortable and accepted in their Divorce Care group.
You’ll watch video seminars on different topics, and hear case studies of people who have experienced separation, learning helpful, practical information that will give you tools to start putting the pieces back together.
You’ll have the chance to talk about your experiences. It can be healing to tell others what you’re going through. The group sessions include dedicated time to talk about what you’ve heard through the videos, and what’s going on in your life. And while you have the opportunity to tell your story, there’s also no pressure for you to do so if you don’t feel like it.
Really, you’ll become part of a ‘family’. Group members often tell us that they feel like their group has become a family; that they made new friends, and they are around people they can relate to. Our groups are facilitated to be a safe environment; because of this, dating relationships between group participants is not encouraged (to allow time for you to focus on personal healing)
