TIME Magazine described Jesus as “...the single most powerful figure - not merely in these two milleniums but in all of human history” (TIME Magazine, December 6th, 1999). No one has been more admired, hated, written about, painted, sung to, than Jesus. In fact, no person has affected human history as much as Jesus.
But everyone seems to have a different opinion on Jesus. Survey any group of people, and there’ll undoubtedly be many different perspectives: life-coach-Jesus, moral-teacher-Jesus, stained-glass-window-Jesus, vegetarian-Jesus, political-Jesus, Sunday-only-Jesus, economic-Jesus...
But who is the real Jesus?
It’s best to let Jesus speak for himself. He never wrote his own book, but much of what he did and spoke was recorded by people who saw and witnessed him firsthand. These accounts are the most reliable records of what Jesus has to say about himself.
In those accounts, Jesus claimed to be God (and he acted like it too). Even then, opinions about him divided people. Some hated him, while others believed that he was who he said he was and left everything to follow him. That same group were so convinced that he had rose from the dead, that they were prepared to die for their testimony.
Here at Village, we’re not interested in blind faith. We trust that Jesus is who he says he is, not only because of the weight evidence that we have, but because we’ve met him personally. And we’ve grown to love him.
He is at the heart of everything that we believe, and everything that we do.
And we’d love to introduce you to him.
If you’d like to find out more about Jesus (and there’s so much more to be said about him), we’d love to invite you to join an Introducing God group. It’s a safe space to explore the claims that Jesus makes about himself, and even make some friends along the way.
You can find out more about Introducing God here.
You can read the Bible for yourself, as well. Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John are all excellent places to start. Feel free to read the Bible online, or we’d love to give you your own Bible. Let us know when you join us; we can’t wait to meet you and give you one as a gift from us.
