How we make Village a safe place

As an Anglican Church in Sydney we are working with a range of policies and procedures. What follows is our general approach to implementing safe ministry.

Village Church is committed to the physical, emotional, and spiritual welfare and safety of all people. In particular, we are committed to ensuring the safety of children and vulnerable people in our community (and everyone who attends Village is encouraged to be involved in creating a safe environment for these people).

We have a zero-tolerance approach to misconduct and abuse. All of our paid and volunteer children and youth team members are subject to Anglican Diocesan Safe Ministry protocols and ongoing associated training. This includes ensuring that those who work with under 18s are not ‘prohibited persons’, and hold current “Working with Children Check” clearance. In addition, all staff and volunteers are required to undertake “Safe Ministry Training”, and complete a refresher training course every three years.

The national Anglican Code of Conduct, Faithfulness in Service, also applies to all paid staff at Village Church. You can also view the Sydney Diocesan Policy on Safe Ministry here.

To create a system of accountability, we also have an independent-volunteer Safe Ministry Representative, who can be contacted through our office on +612 9660 2444.

For more resources, or if you have any concerns, the Professional Standards Unit of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney can be reached either via their website, or via the Abuse Hotline on 1800 774 945.
